Course Overview:

The IB Business Management course is a rigorous discipline that deals with the subject area of people and society. A business institution, compared to any other social institution, is a very different institution where businesses manage resources to produce and then market services and products to fulfil the needs and wants of people; hence, characterised by a profit-making, risk-taking, and competitive nature.

Contrasted to other social sciences, business management deals with the process of making decisions within organisations, while economics is concerned with allocation. It also assesses—in a critical way—the impact of information and communication technologies on sectors like health care and government.

This course considers the business operation in an environment of strategic uncertainty and the process of management decision-making. It examines the internal and external elements that influence business decisions and their consequences for stakeholders. The course also explores organisations' interpersonal and group processes and the effective management of scarce resources in an increasingly scarce and sustainable world while optimizing resources ethically.

Course Curriculum:

The International Baccalaureate (IB) offers two levels of Business Management:

• Standard Level (SL)
• Higher Level (HL)

HL Business Management course differs from the SL course on the following grounds:

• Instruction Time: The HL course is taught for 240 hours, while the SL one is for 150 hours.
• Depth and Breadth: HL requires more depth and breadth with the inclusion of extension units.
• Internal Assessment: The nature of the internal assessment tasks is different.
